Gikinoo'amaagoowin Learning from the Land
For this episode Lisa Myers takes us around the Great Lakes to talk to three guests about water, fish, plants and language. Lisa first visits her home community, Beausoleil First Nation, to join Jeff Monague, an Anishinaabe Elder, Knowledge Holder, and musician. She then goes to Thunder Bay and talks with artist Leanna Marshall, considering language, medicine and fish stories. Next we move across the medicine line to Little Traverse Bay Band - Odawa, in Michigan, to visit Renee “Wassan” Dillard, who shares her expertise on gathering plants from the water and the history of mat weaving.
